Magick is an old way to spell the word “magic”.

This spelling was popularised by Aleister Crowley to make a clear separation from stage magic (where a performer does tricks, pulls rabbit out of a hat, and so on)

Crowley defined magick as “The art and science of causing change to occur in conformity with the will.” 

Simplified, we can say that magick is anything that you do to make your will manifest in the world. 

As above so below

One of the main laws of magick can be summarized in the saying “As within, so without, as above, so below, as the universe, so the soul.”

This phrase originates from a magical artifact known as The Emerald Tablet.

The Emerald Tablet, also known as the Smaragdine Tablet or the Tabula Smaragdina (Latin, from the Arabic: لَوْح الزُّمُرُّذ, Lawḥ al-zumurrudh), is a compact and cryptic Hermetic text. It was highly regarded by Islamic and European alchemists as the foundation of their art. Attributed to the legendary figure Hermes Trismegistus.

Let’s study this phrase. Its general idea is the interconnectedness of all things.

As within, so without – describes that the internal world is a mirroring of the external world. Also everything that happens in our inner world is mirrored in the outer world – in the universe.

As above, so below – explains that the microcosm is mirroring of the macrocosm, the human being a microcosm and the universe being the macrocosm. Everything that happens in the universe is mirrored in our body. The contrary is also true – everything that happens in our inner world, also is mirrored by the universe.

As the universe, so the soul – explains that our soul and our whole being is a small universe that is an image of the universe. 

Everything is connected

Simplified, everything is connected. As they say, everything is one. 

Human soul is the micro-cosmos inside of the macro-cosmos – a universe inside of a universe.

The human soul is a mirrored version of the universe, and the other way around is also true. 

Everything that happens in the universe, in one way or another resonates in the human soul.

And also the other way around, everything that happens in the human soul, in one way or another also happens in the universe.

With magick you invoke changes in your personal reality, and that is mirrored into the common reality of the universe.
