Rules of Divination

  • Runes always tell the truth, the question is are you able to interpret them or not
  • You don’t do divination for the same question more than once per day. You can ask the same question after some time if you have reasons to believe that situation might have changed
  • While in process of a magical ritual or while a rune formula is working and influencing some situation, there is not a lot of sense in making divination about this because it is in the process of change
  • Runic divination is just an external tool, the main aspect at work here is your intuition, that is why you first must try to hone onto the situation with your intuition and only then pull out runes.
  • Keep a journal and write down all your divination results so you can later compare with actual events

Some more advices for your divination practice

One of the most important things in divination is to correctly formulate the question. Think, what runes can come out and what they will mean in the context of the question.

Examples of good questions:

  • If I go on vacation to Rome, what will the result of this be?
  • If I choose to pursue Bob in a romantic way, what will it bring in my life?
  • If I quit my job and look for another one, what will the result be?

Examples of bad questions:

  • What should I do in this situation? What you should or should not do is your business, you are the creator of your life and your future. Your decisions shape your life, not runes or divination. Better ask: If I do this, what will be then? Then ask such questions about several possible choices.
  • Does Bob love me? Love is a pretty subjective concept. Better ask – what Bob thinks about me, what Bob feels about me.

How do you pull out the runes?

There are no set rules about how to pull out the runes. Some say you must pull out with your left hand as that hand is related to intuition. There is historical evidence that a few runes were grabbed out of the rune bag and tossed onto the table and then interpreted. Overall, it is nice to find your own approach that fits you the most.

What I do is I put my right hand in the rune bag, then move it around for a few seconds, stirring the runes, and then pull one rune and lay it down. Then I look at it, if the rune symbol is facing the table, then I flip it so that the rune symbol faces upwards – it can be straight or upside down at this point. Then I pull another rune if the spread requires so, and when all runes are laid out then I make my interpretation.
