First of all, let’s understand what exactly the runes are showing us when we do runic divination.
The subtle reality
The subtle reality can be simplified as the plane of existence where thoughts and emotions reside, and is the same as the astral plane, though the term subtle plane unifies all of the subtle planes being astral, etherical, mental, and so on.
It is this subtle reality that magick deals with. We use divination to perceive the subtle reality and we use magical rituals to modify it. Why so? Because the subtle plane is like a blueprint for physical reality and everything that is in the subtle planes will sooner or later manifest in the physical world. Important to note that events in the subtle plane don’t exist as we understand them. The subtle plane doesn’t have space or time, so concrete things can’t exist there.
Only energies exist in the subtle plane. One energy can be manifested in different ways, there is no definitive answer how an energy will manifest.
That is why it is impossible to foresee future events with certainty. We can only see that a certain energy will manifest. How exactly will it happen, that is the creative expression of the universe.
What divination can tell you is the current subtle plane composition of anything that you are asking the runes about. What divination can’t tell you is what will happen in future with 100% certainty, because there is no certainty in the subtle world, it is constantly shifting and adjusting based on the combined wills of all the beings in the universe.
That means that if you are asking about future events, the runes will show you what is the current situation, and based on that you can assume what is the most probable outcome if there will be no influences on this situation. Though if someone’s will interferes with the situation, the outcome might change.

So, why do we believe the runes that we pull out, are the runes pulled out randomly?
All the answers to all your questions already exist in your subconsciousness, or in the collective unconscious.
Everything you saw in your life, everything you read, all the memories from your life and also beyond that, all that exists in the subconsciousness.
Your subconsciousness knows where each rune is in the rune bag and it directs your hand to pick the rune most appropriate for your question.
But to do this with success one must learn to turn off the brain and allow the subconsciousness to act through you, this is achieved with a trance state.
