Study › Runes & Norse › The Web of Wyrd

The Web of Wyrd is the web of all events across time: every deed and moment is a knot joined to the ones before and after it. Wyrd is the old word for fate, what has become.
What is the Web of Wyrd?
The Web of Wyrd is the web of all events, spread across time and space. Every deed, every choice and every moment is a knot in it. Each knot is joined by threads to the moments that came before it and the ones that will follow. Nothing happens alone: a pull on one thread is felt along the others.
Walking the web
The web is not only an idea to think about. It can be reached. A wyrd walker, someone who has learned to travel the astral realm, can move along its threads. They can see how one event leads to another and work with the patterns of fate.
Wyrd and the Norns
The idea is deeply Norse. Wyrd (Old Norse urðr) is the old word for what has become: the weight of the past on the present. The Norns, who shape fate, sit by the Well of Urd at the root of Yggdrasil and weave the threads of every life.
Its weavers are the Norns.
