Vanaheim

Vanaheim is the home of the Vanir, one of the nine worlds of Norse mythology. The Vanir are a family of gods of fertility, wealth, the sea and magic, who fought a war with the Aesir and then made peace.

What is Vanaheim?

Vanaheim is the homeland of the Vanir, an older family of gods tied to fertility, prosperity, the sea and seid magic. Little is described of the land itself; it lies apart from Asgard and is chiefly known through its people.

The Vanir and the Aesir

The Vanir and the Aesir once fought a long war that ended in truce and an exchange of hostages. Through that exchange the sea-god Njord and his children Freyr and Freyja came to live among the Aesir, carrying Vanir fertility magic into Asgard. Vanaheim thus stands for the grounded, life-giving powers that balance the Aesir's law and war.

Ruled by: the Vanir as a people. No single ruler is named — Njord is the foremost among them, but the sources never call him their king.

Its best-known goddess is Freyja. It hangs with the other worlds in Yggdrasil, the World Tree.
