Muspelheim

Muspelheim is the world of fire in Norse mythology, so hot that only its own people can live there. It existed before creation, and its fire giant Surtr will burn the nine worlds at Ragnarok.

What is Muspelheim?

Muspelheim is the primordial world of fire, a realm so hot that none but its own kind can endure it. It existed before creation, opposite the ice of Niflheim, and the meeting of its sparks and heat with that ice began the making of the world.

Surtr and the end of the world

Muspelheim is guarded and ruled by the fire giant Surtr, who sits at its border with a flaming sword. At Ragnarok, Surtr and the sons of Muspel will ride out across Bifrost, shattering the bridge, and Surtr's fire will finally engulf the nine worlds and burn them clean.

Ruled by: Surtr, who guards its border with a flaming sword — a fire jotunn, not a god.

Its fire met the ice of Niflheim at the beginning, and its giants end the world at Ragnarok.
