Loki, Angrboda and their children
With the giantess Angrboda in Jotunheim, Loki fathered three children: the wolf Fenrir, the serpent Jormungandr, and Hel, half living and half dead. When the gods learned of them and heard the prophecies that great harm would come from them, Odin sent for the three and dealt with each in turn.
What Odin did
He threw the serpent into the deep sea that lies around all lands, where it grew until it circled the whole world and bit its own tail. He cast Hel down into Niflheim to rule the dead. The wolf the gods kept in Asgard, but it grew so large and so fast that only Tyr dared to feed it, and in the end they bound it with the fetter Gleipnir, at the cost of Tyr's hand.
At Ragnarok
None of this prevents what was foretold. At Ragnarok all three return: the wolf swallows Odin, the serpent fights Thor, and the dead come out of Hel's realm.
